Hello, Hello, Hello. Yes, It has been at least a year since I’ve written to you consistently. Summer of 2017 was a my no year. I said no to many things I had been doing or thought I wanted to start. Saying no to doing more stuff was amazing and 2017 was a great follow-up to my summer of 2016. I’m looking forward to more of that for summer 2018.

Once again this week I’ve stared #GirlTrek. This is like my third time deciding that I’m going to start walking as a GirlTrekker, but this time I’m for real. Today was day 3 towards completing my first week. My goal, to walk five days this week and earn my #GirlTrek Superhero blue t-shirt. If you don’t know about #GirlTrek it’s a movement/call to action to mobilize 1 million Black Women to walk for their lives. Read #GirlTrek’s story here.

Why do I start and stop?

I start and stop because quite frankly as much as I love to walk and enjoy fitness I don’t necessarily want to walk every day for fitness. Sometimes I like to invest in Tabata training, kick boxing, Zumba, Strong by Zumba, bike riding, etc. I’ll start walking then decide I don’t feel like doing this and move on to something else.

What’s different this time?

I had two aha moments. The first moment was speaking my truth. I’ve been struggling to work out the past few months due to changes in my lifestyle and schedule. It’s been harder and I’m seeing the impact it’s having on my mind, body, and calling to fulfill my purpose. Because fitness and wellness are part my work/ministry I can’t successfully do either if my I’m not moving my body. #GirlTrek is more than fitness. It speaks to my vision to bridge the gaps in well-being especially for women in the Black community. How can I not be an active member?

The other moment was the acceptance that I can start this alone and I don’t have to pressure myself into starting a local team. Not right now. In fact I need to walk the talk and practice self-care before I ask a sister to join me. Whenever I come across something good I want to share it, that’s my nature. However right now I need to focus on motivating myself and forging a commitment to me. It’s like what they say on the plane. Put your oxygen mask on first. Right now I need to put my oxygen mask on.

My walk so far

So, so far this week I have walked three days.

  • Day 1 – I walked because it’s my first week of #GirlTrek
  • Day 2 – I walked to listen to a podcast
  • Day 3 – I walked to protest
  • Day 4 – Tomorrow I will walk in the morning as a sacrifice to grow my business
  • Day 5 – I will walk because it’s #SuperHeroSaturday

I have faith that the Lord will sustain my life and my body, His Holy Temple. In order to put that faith in action I need to operate my body in wholeness and truth. For that reason I make a commitment to move every day. The word of God says. “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2: 17. Moving is my faith in action, my daily devotion in motion.
