I love my work and I love what it allows me to accomplish as a servant leader. Serving others allows me to use my gifts and talents to honor others, put my values in action, and give back. Sometimes giving back means that the people who have benefited from my service are none the wiser…and that’s okay.

Leadership in Action

Today I completed three days of service as a grant reviewer. As a grant reviewer I come together with my peers and we objectively review proposals submitted for funding. It’s an interesting process that begins weeks before when we individually comb through each assigned document then come together and collectively complete the process. The process requires patience, laser focus, and cooperation. Some parts of it can also be tedious. Yet when we’re done, it’s an exhilarating feeling to know you’ve just done good work that matters and lots of people somewhere in this country will benefit from the outcome. Thank goodness my personality and professional skills are right for the task.

Last week was very special. On July 1st, I stepped into my role as Executive Director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery (FAM).  I’m ready to help the Board of Directors grow this organization and advance its mission of “increasing access to midwifery in North America.”  Being hired to do this work is an honor. I’m passionate about midwifery care and I believe it is the gold standard for women with healthy pregnancies. In fact, it can even be the standard of care for all well woman care and pregnancy care for women who might be high risk when midwifery care teams up with OB/GYN care and other necessary specialists. Click here on the FAM link to learn about the organizations philanthropic work.

You are the Light of the World

Thank you for letting me shine a spotlight on me and my work. It’s not something I do very often and I hope to change that. I realize that not shining my light actually does a disservice to those who might benefit from what I bring to the table. In closing,  I’d like to share this verse that is very applicable to my life, in fact all of our lives. Let your light shine.

Your in health,

Tamara
