Your Mind is a Very Powerful Tool

Your mind is a very powerful tool that can uplift or tear down. It can build a nation or destroy a people.

“Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch you words, they become actions. Watch you actions, they become your character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” Author unknown

Children are more likely than adults to speak their minds. Once they learn language it takes them many more years to understand the nuances of communication. At this milestone they begin to understand that speaking their mind is not always right. They learn that their words can hurt people and have consequences.

What if we invoked this principle at a macro level and internalized the concept of only entertaining thoughts about ourselves that are life affirming? If we practiced this ritual on a daily basis within 30 days this act would become a habit. A wellspring of positive words would spring from the fountain of our thoughts. These words would become the foundation for actions we take in our lives. We would negotiate well deserved promotions, ask for what we need in relationships, and Make Room for Necessary Endings.

The impact these changes would have on character are amazing. [tweetthis]The potential for building positive character traits are endless; integrity, confidence, adventurous, honest, loyal, faithful, optimistic, and more.[/tweetthis]

Creating Your Destiny

Who are we trying to impress? Absolutely no one! Taking hold of your thoughts is about creating your destiny. I conducted a workshop titled Called to Something Greater, Answering Your Call to Lead. During the workshop the participants wrote words that they wanted to let go of on slips of paper. Hurtful words spoken to them throughout their lifetime, words they wanted to leave behind. My heart broke when I read them. In the next part of the exercise they replaced these words with new words that reflected their hopes and dreams (thoughts) about themselves. These words spoke fire into their visions.

The next time a fleeting thought comes to mind, STOP! Take a moment to decide if it’s helpful or hurtful.  Good fruit or bad fruit? Your mind is a very powerful tool. Use it to reach your full potential.

Yours in health,

Tamara
