Meet Tamara

Hello! I am the proud mother of a highly spirited teenager.  My pregnancy and "our labor and birth" were the catalyst for my consumer advocacy work around birth.  I am the Executive Director & Founder of Just Us Women Productions, LLC.  A company focused on providing "old school" customer service. People are often surprised at my level of hands-on experience and training. It's not hard to accomplish when you have a passion like I do for all things birth.

Organizations and Institutions

Operating a boutique management consulting firm allows me to work successfully with businesses to improve services and meet deadlines through tailored strategic consulting.  With a concentration in maternal and child health; women's wellness, and the maternal child health life course model the firm stays focused on its areas of expertise.

Individuals and Groups

Operated under the firm's umbrella is All Things Birth which targets the physical and emotional, education and advocacy needs of childbearing women.  Using the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative and the Principles of Family-Centered Maternity Care for guidance, I promote and inform women and their families about the normalcy of pregnancy and childbirth.  Part of what I do is support a woman to take ownership of her pregnancy and letting her baby come out. Pregnancy is a normal part of a woman's life cycle and we shouldn't be afraid of it. Pregnant women are not sick, they're creating life, and how that life comes into the world depends a great deal on her surroundings and belief in herself and birth as normal. I am committed to providing comprehensive and quality services during the childbearing year evidenced by my ongoing continuing education.

National and International Work

In addition to my local work as a maternal child health expert, I travel throughout the country working with federally funded programs and community based organizations to educate/train them on increasing awareness, and a working knowledge, of the theory and practice of the Maternal Child Health Life Course Model. I also demonstrate how the model can be used to reduce racial/ethnic disparities in infant mortality and for improving women's wellness. As the current President of the Childbirth Education Association of Metropolitan NY I am honored to lead this teacher certification program with an almost 40 year history of providing education, advocacy, and family centered maternity care. My academic background includes an MA in Counseling and Guidance from New York University. My love for birth has taken me to the Dominican Republic to provide professional labor support as a certified doula in Bani.

Just for Fun

I can be found leading Zumba® fitness classes somewhere around town; reading a good book; listening to Jazz, R & B or talk radio; or watching House Hunters with my feet up and a cup of herbal tea. I write a Blog, though sometimes I forget, and I dream about taking a real vacation.
